Self-Improvement

Well, for months now I've been in the gym 4-5 times a week and have lost 45 lbs of body fat, from 235 to 190 and rebuilt back up to 210 - all muscle. It's meant serious diet changes. NO fast food. NO junk food. Protein bars, protein shakes, low fat meals. Lots of BBQ. Lean meat, rice, salads with just vinegar or like a raspberry dressing. Lots of fruit and berries. Lots of nuts. No dairy (wasn't much of a problem anyhow as my colitis doesn't allow it). Etc.

Finally plunked down the deposit on Hair Restoration surgery today. Very reasonable cost, $6000 with a 2K deposit, very reputable doctor whose work is fantastic.

It's my only real age teller and it's been bugging me since I started losing my hair since I was 21. So, 27 years later, I'm getting it fixed.

Anyone else with "Self Improvement" stories?

Good on ya mate. I approve. As my buddies John and Elton once sang, "Whatever gets you thru the night, it's alright! It's all right!". Get you some while the getting is good.

I did see a funny Beverly Hills diet on the news. Apparently, people are paying a doctor to stitch a plastic square onto their tongue. It makes eating solid food extremely painful and annoying, so the people only drink liquids and lose weight that way. Some has lost 30 pounds a month.

What would be a funny name for that diet?

I'm also "Follicly Challenged", but I waited until I was 33 to start loosing it.

I used to run 6 miles 2-3 times a week until my last knee surgery in 2003 and weighed about 178. I'm 5'11".

When I had to stop, I slowly gained weight.

When I was diagnosed borderline diabetic in 2009, I weighed in at 209lbs. Since then, by changing how much I ate more than what I ate (my diet wasn't bad, just too much!) I lost back down to where I am now at 182.

I just hope my body holds it together for about 40-50 more years, Longevity runs in my family. Lots of relatives over 100 in my family and most others into their 90's...

Well it's done now. I got my hair restored. It was painful and uncomfortable, but not intolerable. It'll take 2 months to really start seeing a big difference and in 6 months to a year, it'll be completely normal.

What a relief.

I feel ya Bone. Congrats on getting it done.

Im thinking about gastric lap band surgery. I've struggled with weight my whole life. I just love food too much i guess. A coworker got the surgery a few months ago, and he has lost 80 pounds in 3 months, going from 285 to 205 pounds currently. He was wearing a 42 inch waist in blue jeans (and really his gut hung over that), but now a 34-inch waist fits him appropriately.

Anybody got any good or bad stories about this surgery?

Rick, I've hear NOTHING but good about this surgery from friends who have had it done. That their appetites have gone down to normal and they are more active and their natural metabolism has risen. Do it!!
