This goes all the way back to the early 70's when I was about 12-13 years old.
I used to walk to a "newsstand." You may need to Google what a newsstand was. This one was more like a little diner or a "fountain" where there was counter service where you could order a greasy burger or a milkshake or ice cream soda.
They sold what seemed like to me was "thousands" of magazines along with the various newspapers of the day. All the way at the top of the rack were the "adult" mags. Not truly porn but typically Playboy, Penthouse, Swank, etc. But along with those were:
Fling
Gem
The BUF Swinger
Google those.
Not only was this before Gent magazine but I am pretty sure it pre-dated Score.
Anyway, of course I was too young to buy. But I would go up there to buy a newspaper and spend a few extra minutes STARING at those racks and by racks I do not mean the wooden shelves that held the magazines.
One of my all times faves: Roxanne Brewer; also Roberta Pedon, Candy Samples, Patty Plenty. I got to know them all visually.
Then, some years later when I was "of age", I was ready to buy, LOL.
