Hmmm I'll be honest, I had no idea google arranged the search results in order of popularity, but in order of relevance

Pagerank is by popularity but it also customizes itself to your preferences. If you've been to a site before then it is more likely to show up. Just clear your cache and reopen the browser and do it again for a true test

It came to my attention when one googles 'chelsea charms gallery', we not only have the first result. But we own the first 1.5 pages.
